AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

COMMITTEE MEETING. A special committee meeting of the Taranaki Agricultural Society was held last evening. The president, Mr. W. Ambury, occupied the chair, and there were also present: Messrs. L. A. Nolan, F. Orbell, Jackson, G. Smith, H. .1011, G. Colson, J. R. Hill, and W. A. Wood.

The Kent Road Settlers' Association wrote thanking the Society for information sent, and forwarding the following resolution: ''That the Taranaki Agricultural Society be asked to urge the Government to take immediate steps to experiment with the various blights mentioned by the United States' Department of Agriculture for the eradicating of blackberry."—lt was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the member for the district, and that he be asked to bring same under the notice of the Minister for Agriculture.

Messrs. E. Griffiths and Co. were accorded a hearty vote of thanks for their offer of a gold watch for best field of swedes.

'Mr. W. Stanley sent in his resignation as a member of the Society. It was decided that the resignation be not accepted, but that Mr. Stanley be freed from all work at the next winter show. It was decided that a meeting of members be held early next year 'for the purpose of discussing any suggestions that may be forthcoming for the advancement of future shows.. Already a large number of suggestions, have been received by the committee, and the meeting will give an opportunity for members to have any proposal, discussed.

The secretary presented an approximate balance-sheet of the late' show, showing that the financial position was much better than at the preceding spring show.

Five new members were elected during the evening. Accounts amounting to £l5B Is 7d were passed for payment.
