"AT THE SIGN OF THE LYRE."

To the Editor. 'Sir,—l might be permitted to express my unqualified appreciation of the musical, witty and philosophical verses of the poet "Boz," which were published recently in the columns of the "News." The lines: "The wise man and the foolish, The worst man and' the best, Must drift along its current, Must obey its mute behest," if applied to "Destiny," inscrutable, and not to "Public Opinion" only, might be difficult to find excelled. Indeed, it might not be saying too much to affirm that the poem is one of the best specimens, if not the best, of original versification ever printed in the Taranaki newspapers.—l am, etc., C.W.W.
