King George and Queen Mary will visit Amsterdam in the summer of 1911—Press cable. Messrs. H. Okey, B. Dive and J. B. Hine, M's.P., were amon'g those present at the Stratford Show yesterday. Mr. L. B. Wilson, of the Railway Department, has been appointed a judge of the Native Land Court.—Press wire.
A Wellington telegram states that Mr. R. B. Vincent, assistant-secretary and accountant to the Treasury, is re» tiring. Mr. Mowbray is to be promoted to the position of accountant and Mr. Gibbs to the 'position of chief clerk in the Treasury. At a largely attended meeting of Christchurcli citivens, it was decided to ask Mr. J. D. Hall to contest th# Mayoralty of that city, and a requisition to him was signed by all present, and is being laorgely signed by other#, Mr. Hall, who is a son of the late SB? John Hall, has filled several public positions, and is at present chairman of the Fire Board. Probably the present Mayor, Mr. Alison will also be a candidate.
Sergeant-Bugler Jack Morgan, of the "A" Squadron First Regiment Auckland Mounted Rifles, and Sergeant Clarkson, of the Onehunga scouts and cadets, who represented New Zealand at Bisley, returned home by the Maheno on Sunday evening. They were met at the steamer by representatives from their respective companies. Both boys worthily upheld the honors of the Dominion in the Old Country and in Canada. 'Besides winning various other prizes, Morgan came second in the shooting for Lady Gwendoline Guinness's trophy, Clarkson being fourth.
The Rev. R. S. Gray, well known as a proliibtion leader, will leave Christchurch on December 15. He has held the pastorate of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church for over eight years, and feels that the strain of the work necessitates a change. The church has, therefore, granted him furlough for nine months. Mr. and Mrs. Gray will visit Australia and then proceed to India to inspect and report upon, the mission work that is being done by the New Zealand Baptist Churches in Brahmanbaria and Chandpur. They will then jgo to England and America, where they will represent the New Zealand churches at the Pan-Baptist Congress, to be held next year in Philadelphia.
