AXEMEN'S CARNIVAL

CYCLE RACING. The largest Boxing Day cycling programme in the North Island this year is provided by the New Zealand Axemen's Association at its annual carnival at Eltham on the 26th and 27th. dnst. It is understood that all the leading riders are to compete, and Parkes and other prominent Taranaki racing cyclists have already taken up their quarters in New Plymouth for active training. The programme, an attractive one, is advertised in this issue, and all entries close on Saturday at 8 p.m. with the secretary at Eltham. The. competition in these events, combined with the exciting chopping and sawing contests, in which over a hundred competitors, representing the foremost weilders of the axe and saw in New Zealand and the Commonwealth, are to take part, will provide two days' enjoyment that should attract holiday makers in their thousands to the conveniently situated Tamata Park at Eltham. The Association is making further improvements to the grounds, with a view to ensuring greater comfort and convenience than ever for their patrons.
