A rather important move is "in the air" in connection with the trade between Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Coast, and some developments are likely to transpire during the next few weeks, eays the Sydney Shipping List. So far, little is heard of the project, but it is understood from a private message that a representative of a shipping company closely associated with America's railroad business will reach Sydney Very soon nom to enter into negotiations and seek information relative to a service of up-to-date passenger and cargo vessels to link up the Commonwealth, New Zealand, and the Pacific Coast, almost on the lines as the J. D. Spreckels Company (Oceanic Line). From the facts so far available, it appears that the American Government have promised to support the scheme to 4. limited extent, and the company concerned intend to make similar overtures in Australia. The vessels to be employed are of a modern type and very fast, besides being fitted in a luxurious style. The company, which, have a fleet already in commission, are well known on the ! Pacific Slopes, and are quite confident of establishing the line on a solid footing. 1; ' The Claymore, which trades between Onehunga and Waitara, is bringing down large cargoes every fortnight, and last trip a quantity of cargo had to be shut out.
