FAMILY CAKES. Here are the recipes for two good family cakes:—Family Seed Cake.—lngredients: Quarter pound flour, three ounces sugar, three ounces butter, three eggs, one teaspoonful baking powder, two ounces caraway seeds. Rub the butter into the flour, stirring in the baking powder at the last. Line the cake tin with greased paper, pour in the mixture, and bake for three-quarters of an hour in a quick oven. For a good Family Cake.—Mix one teaspoonful of bakingpowder with one pound of iour, then I add six ounces of currants, six ounces !of stoned' raisins, and one ounee of chopped peel. Cream two ounces of lard and two ounces of butter with six ounces of castor sugar, beat the yolks of three eggs, and add to the butter and sugiar; then stir in the dry ingredients, and beat well, and at the last stir in the whites of ttfie eggs beaten to a stiff froth. Put into a greased tin, and bake for one hour and a half or two hours. A good family tea to serve at all times is the New Orescent Blend, at 2s per lb., and Which can be obtained from practically every storekeeper in Hie district. This tea is very rich and strong, consequently it is not necessary to use quite so much of it as of other teas. The •flavor is very agreeable, and never changes. It is the same to-day as it was yesterday, as it will be a year hence. It is a well-recommended family tea.
