MOTHER MARY AUBERT
PUBLIC RECOGNITION AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. There was a very large gathering at the Town Hall last evening to do honor to Mother Mary Joseph Aubert, the occasion heing a public recognition of the fact that Mother Aubert has just concluded fifty years' work amongst the sick and suffering of New Zealand, His Excellency the Governor handed Mother Aubert a cheque for over £2OOO, subscribed by sympathisers all over >tibe , Dominion. Lord Islington paid a high tribute to the splendid services Mother Aubert' had rendered 'to her fellow creatures. It required no panegyric from him, he said, to elaborate that for it stood out itself as a monument of sustained energy in the cause of Ira- / inanity and solicitude. Mother Aubert, who personally received the gift, met with am extraordinarily enthusiastic reception. »,
Dr. Izard returned thanks on her behalf. The Rev Van Sfcaveren, Jewish Rabbi, also eulogised Mother noble work, and on her behalf announced that the anoniey just presented would he applied to adding a wing to the Home of Compassion at Island Bay for con? valescent, children of all creeds.
