SWIMMING.

(By "Splodge"). On Tuesday evening last, when Mr. Tisch's sports ait the baths ( which were by way of ,an official opening of the baths for the year) took place, some really good swimming by both boys and girls was witnessed. The diving, too, was excellent and quite an eye open?r to many present. Mr. Tisch is to be congratulated on the success of his sports, and the attendance of thie public must to a large extent 'have recompensed him for the trouble and. expense to which he put himself in running the sports. The water polo match was got off during the evening between two teams from 'thj? }?.P.A.S.Q., one representing the Beachcombers and tfe other being a combined team of East and West Enders. Although the combined team was much superior to its opponents, a good open game eventuated, which should have given the many school boys and girls present an idea of the game. Thie Swimming Club are at present engaged in inaugurating a polo competition between the various schools in town, and members of the committee have attended at the schools and given the boys a short explanation of the main rules of the game. The club is now printing off a number of copies of the rules for distribution among the boys to enable them to more readily learn the game. The boys themselves are as "keen as mustard" on the .game and the success of the competition seems assured.

It is proposed to get one teacher each from t'he Central, West End and Fitzroy Schools and three or four fro'm the Hiah School. Next year it is hoped that the latter school may be a'ule to enter a team in the Swimming Club's senior competition. The. first round of the senior polo competition will start on Wednesday next. It is sioped to start the school competition on the same date. Mr. A. R. Standish has been elected captain of the Swimming Club, vice Mr. P. K. Turnbull, who has resigned, as he is leaving the town at Christmas. Mr. A. L. Dixon takes Mr. Standish's, place as vice-captain. The club are holding their first sports meeting on or about December 14, and hope to put on arc attractive programme. It is, I believe, their intention to make out times for the start of each race and see that every race does start to time, any competitor not being ready at the time being left out. This scheme was. very successful at the Club's last sports last season, and should make all the difference in the .running of the sports and prevent any weary waits.
