The wicket was soft at the start as 'the result of a storm overnight. The attendance was two thousand. Australia sent 'South Africa to the wickets. {Three wickets were down for 1.0. Nourse and Faulkner stopped the rot, and bnougiht the total to 76 before they were separated The bowling was good, but the fielding poor, six catches being dropped before tihe tea adjournment. Llewellyn, Sherwell and Sinclair made a splendid effort, scoring rapidly. The innings occupied 4hrs. !>min. The match between New South Wales and South Australia was commenced today in fine weather, on a good wicket. South Australia batted first, and made 342. Dowling (24), Olem Hill (87), Gehrs (120), 'Chamberlain (35) and Mayne (22) were the chief scorers. Scott captured four wickets for 48, and Emery three for 100. New South Wales has lost no wicket? for 44, the not-outs being Trumper' (29) and Bardsley (13). Hill showed much of his old form, and Gehrs played excellently all round 't*he wicket a ehanceless innings. The partnership put on 160 in 94 minutes.
