FEDERAL NOTE ISSUE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 1, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, December 1. The first issue of Federal bank notes was made to-day. The notes are the ordinary forms of the respective banks, with the words, "Australian Note, payable in gold at the Commonwealth Treasury, Seat of Government," printed across the middle. It will probably be some time before the Government's own note is ready for issue. FLOODS IN SYDNEY. Received 1, 10.15 p.m. Sydney, December 1. By a severe thunderstorm the city and suburbs, and soma outlying districts were flooded, and considerable damage done. Several trams were derailed by debris collecting on the lines. A building collapsed at Ryde, and a boy was killed. THE COMMONWEALTH CENSUS. Received 1, 10.15 p.m. Melbourne, December 1. Ten thousand persons will be employed throughout the Commonwealth in taking the census.
