LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the Legislative Council this afternoon the debate was resumed on the second reading of the Tramways Bill, which was eventually committed and progress reported. The Council rose at 5 p.m.

Replying to Mr. Davev, the Hon. J. A. Millar said his attention 'had been called to a statement made in the Arbitration Court, alleging that there was a dispute in the shearers' case which the Judge said did not legally exist. He believed there was power in the Act to enable the dispute to be heard, notwithstanding the technicality, and he regretted that it had been laid aside. An amendment to the law would be carefully considered with a view to dealing with the question next session. Replying to questions, Ministers stated That the Government will consider tjie desirability of the House sitting at 10 a.m. during future sessions, with the object of securing the. best hours of the day for business.
That the visit of Mr. Henry, the peroleum expert, to the Dominion may be taken advantage of by consulting him in reference to the prospects of oil production generally. That the new regulations under the Food and Drugs Act are in course of preparation, and the Pharmaceutical Associations will be duly advised before the same are gazetted.
