Mr. W. H. Hawkins, ex-M.P. for Pahiatua, was a visitor to the show yesterday.
Mr. E. B. Good, J.P., ex-Mayor ol Rangiora, is on a brief visit to Xew Plymouth. _Mr. H. C. Woods, late of the Grenadier Guards, has been appointed ViceConsul at Adana.—Press cable.
Mrs. John Oliver, a very old resident of New Plymouth, died yesterday at the age of 77. She came out with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Julian, in the Blenheiiu, sixty-eight years ago. Mr. R. Arnst, champion sculler of the world, was entertained at a social function last night at Christehurch by a number of his friends, and was presented with a leather suit case with an inscribed plate.
A Wellington telegram states that Mr. Peter Bowling, who arrived from Sydney by the Warrimoo yesterday, was entertained by the Socialist party to-night, about a hundred being present. He will address a meeting on Sunday night.
