STRATFORD DAY BY DAY

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night.

An inquest was held at Midhirst this morning before Mr. S. Ward, J.P., act-ing-coroner, and a jury, of whom Mr. W. White was foreman, to enquire into how Roy Hilton Perrett, the three-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Perrett, came to his death. The evidence of the mother showed that the little boy on Saturday morning got through the fence by the house into the paddock in which the cows, were. She heard a cow making a noise, and on going out of the house saw the boy on the ground and the cow butting at him. She called her husband, and he carried the lad into the house. The boy did not seem hurt, and on Saturday had his dinner as usual. On Sunday he appeared quite well, buj about 6.30 on Monday morning he had a bad turn. She sent her husband for the doctor, but half an hour after lie left the boy died. The cow was a quiet one, but had only calved a few days. Dr. CaTbery said lie had conducted a post mortem examination, which revealed that the deceased had the bladder ruptured. The immediate cause of death was commencing septic peritonitis. The injuries could have been inflicted by a cow. He did mot think the parents could have recognised the severity of the internal injuries received, as the deceased did not show the usual symptoms associated with such injuries. The jury returned a verdict that the deceased came to his death by injuries inflicted by a cow, no blame being attachable to anybody.
