(By "Moturoa.'')

The Takapuna Jockey Club's spring meeting will be concluded this afternoon. A good crowd of Taranaki horses claim engagements at the Feilding meeting which takes place to-day and tomorrow, and some of the wealth should find its way to this province. Red Lup'iti hopped out on Saturday and made no race of the Pony Handicap at Takapuna, winning hard held by a couple of lengths. The bay son of Lupin went through last season without winning a race, and Mr. S. Pitt is to be congratulated on his pluck in sticking to what looked like a bad "spec." The crowd behind the winner made the pencilled sit up somewhat, but the dividend might have been larger than it was. The cerise jacket of Ormond's will be in evidence at Feilding to-day, and with Birkdale in the big handicap, Faunus in the Flying, Idealism in the] Welter and Formby in the Stakes, the! [ Squire of Karamu certainly seems to

hold a strong hand. The rain which fell at Feilding at the beginning of the week has freshened up the tracks a lot, aod there should be some interesting racing there this afternoon. Big fields promise to face the starter, and most of the races bear a J very open appearance. Mr. H. Eva has a strong team engaged, and his charges all bear a healthy, appearance. Uhlando looks very fit, and; if the little fellow can be caught in aj galloping mood he might make up fori a lengthy string of disappointing per-] formances. Plantation showed that he was endowed with pace when he ran 1 off with the Borough Handicap at thej Egmont winter meeting, and the handicapper lias not treated him badly at Feilding. Miss Advance is a slashing mare when well, and Mr. Eva appears to have built her up well during the last few months. She had heaps of] racing /last season, but only caught] the judge's eye on two occasions, her J last victory being in the Welter at the Takapuna winter meeting, when she put down a hot favorite in Eleetrakoff. I 1 look to her to do well this year. Te Tikura is a fine big fellow, and has been boomed somewhat, but he should turn out useful. His engagements include the Fitzroy Hack to-day, and the Maiden Scurry on Thursday. j Trainer H. Cutts arrived at Feilding on Monday with Madam Madcap, Sharpshooter, tenterhook, Countermine, and ( True Knight. After racing at Feilding, j part of the team will be railed to Auck-j land. |

A Southern scribe reports that after Mr. Patterson sounded the market, the penciilers closed down on the Mon Ami —Birkdale double.

Excel, engaged in the Feilding Stakes, is a full brother to Effort, and will 'probably be ridden by the Auckland horseman, Deeley.

The chances of John have been con- : sidcrc-d more promising than of Roose-j velt, and Billy Young has been wasting to ride the former at Bst in the St. Andrew's Handicap. Trainer C. Pritchard lias Mon Ami and Hydrant in good fettle for Feilding engagements. | The Highden stable will be represented by Polymorphous in the Feilding Stakes and"lvilosteri in the Welter Handicap. | Before racing at Ellesmere, Egotist was doing some good gallops at Waganui, and one morning made no race of St. Bill over five furlngs. At Ellesmere he let Eall and Co. down badly, but they have not given up hope of winning some good races this season. The racehorses Echo and Grenadier Avere shipped to Fiji last week.

North Head and Paisano are going well at Elleslie, and the last named is making many friends for the Auckland Cup. It transpires that Bobrikoff had to be thrown out of work owing to unsoundness. A few months' spell, it f is expected, will see him right again. Kapanga has been rushed for the Auckland Railway Handicap, and Advocate, on whom Deeley will have the mount, still holds favoritism for the Cup. Moloch has been thrown out of work.

Owing to the death of his mother, Mr. R. M'Renzie has scratched his horses for the Feilding and Woodville meetings. Owing to the hardness of the tracks at Awapuni, Captain, who was holding oat signals of soreness, was taken to Foxton last week to be trained.

Formby has been galloping in great style lately, and is sure to run well forward in forthcoming engagements. A lot of money was lost over Golden Loop on Saturday, but the chestnut ran an honest race and was finishing fast just outsid-i a place. He should win at any moment, and particularly over a longer course than he was asked to gallop last week. Red Lupin has gone up a stone for winning the First Pony Handicap on ■Saturday, but he won very easily on that occasion, and his owner very wisely decided to go on with the game while he had the lilliputian in good fettle.

Coromandel has been showing good form lately, and may be given a run in the big race at Takapuna to-day. Stoitrton has been put in work again at Gisborne and is looking well after a spell.

A party of Inglewood sports left Inglewood last night per motor car to attend the Feilding races to-day. It is to be hoped that Clemora will catch their enthusiasm (and the other horses) and award them a win.
