A MYSTERIOUS POISONING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Perth, November 29. Three children were poisoned at Bunbury by eating beetroot, and two died. The case is mysterious.
DESTRUCTIVE WHIRLWIND. Melbourne, November 29. A whirlwind at Port Melbourne con siderably damaged several buildings.
THE LAND TAX. Melbourne, November 29. Mr. Hughes, replying to English criticisms of the land tax, declares that the facts are not understood.
SYDNEY WHARF LUMPERS. Sydney, November 29. The wharf laborers sought to have the constant hands clause eliminated from the Wages Board Award. The secretary stated that if the employers attempted to sandwich in constant hands it would mean immediate industrial trouble. The application was dismissed.
MR. WADE ENTERTAINED. Sydney, November 29. Mr. Wade, ex-Premier, and his wife were entertained at a conversazione, and Mrs. Wade was presented with a pearl and diamond brooch and a cheque for £2500 in a solid gold bag. Mr. Wade, in a vigorous reply, said that the Liberal organisation must be kept alive on a Liberal basis. He hoped to protect the State from the -Wild schemes that were being threatened.
THE UNVARNISHED GOSPEL. •Sydney, November 29. The annual report of the Church of England Association supports the. Archbishop in prohibiting vestments, and adds: "The preaching of the Gospel of the Cross is the best antidote for the cravings for the mass, vestments, processions and elaborate ritual."
WATERSIDE WORKERS. Melbourne, November 29. A conference is being held between the waterside workers and the Steam Ship Association. The -rorkers are demanding an all-round increase.
MIXING ACCIDENT. Sydney, November 29. A fall of earth in the Proprietary Mine, Peakhill, buried an elderly miner for twenty hours. His mates had to put in a new drive to rescue him.
