BOXING
NEW PLYMOUTH TOURNAMENT. . Over three hours of good, clean sport will be provided at the New Plymouth Amateur Boxing Association's tournament in the Drill Hall on Wednesdayevening, so that patrons should have no cause to complain. Excellent seating accommodation is being arranged. In the light-weight novice competition six entries have been received, the competitors being:—W. Whitaker, R. Gibbs, W. Francis, and H. Rielly (New Plymouth), C. James (Egmont Village), and J. Barrett (Pungarehu). The "draw" for the first round of this competition resulted in the bouts being arranged as follow:—Francis v. Barrett, Whitaker v. Rielly, Gibbs v. James. The entrants in the competition for novices over lOst in weight are B. Oakes and J. Cross (New Plymouth), and W. Rothery and T. Quickenden (Pungarehu). In the first round Cross will meet Quickenden, and Rothery will meet Oakes. The subsequent rounds in both competitions will be "drawn" at the tournament. The order in which the competitors and matches will be decided at the tournament is as follows: —First three bouts of novice light-weight competition, first two bouts novice heavy-weight competition, heavy-weight championship of Taranaki, second round light-weight novice, middle-weight special (S. Lovegrove v., J. L. Power), light-weight special (Bond v. Maxwell) , novice heavyweight final, novice light-weight final. It will be thus seen that there will be twelve contests, providing, if each bout goes to the limit, three and a half hours of really good sport. The doors will open at 7.30 p.m., and the first bout will start at 8 p.m. sharp. Mr. J. J. Stagpoole will act as referee.
