SATURDAY COMPETITIONS. NEW PLYMOUTH v. EC.MONT VILLAGE. New. Plymouth beat Egmont Village on the Recreation Ground by 53 runs on the first innincs. Egmont Village, batting only nine'men, opened to the ball, and put'together 78 before being disposed of, O'Byrne's 25 (not out) being the best performance. Irrvine (25) and Marsh (18) accounted for the rest of the runs, with the exception of 10. Williams was most successful with the ball, getting four wickets for 12 runs. With the first ball in New Plymouth's innings, Kinsella found his way to Weston's timber, but Williams resented the intrusion, and immediately started knocking things about. His 22 was the best score for his side. Goddard and Clarke, with 21 each, were next best of the seven who reached double figures, in a total score of 131. Six bowlers were tried, Irvine's two for 15 being the best. Egmont Village's second innings produced 71, 0. Kinsella with 31, O'Byrne 15, and Marsh 10, being the top notchers.. At Tukapa, Inglewood went down before Law by 118 runs. The bowlers, Elliott and Hill, were in rare form, the former getting six wickets at a cost of 18 runs, and the latter four for 14. Mcßae scored 13 out of the total of 34, while four failed to contribute. Six of the Law got into double figures, some of them well up, notably Clapham (34), Lash (31) and Greatbatch (25). Inglewood's first wicket fell for one run and the second without further score; there were three down for 11, and four for the same number; five for 22, and six also without anything being added; the seventh fell for 23, and the remaining three wickets put on 11 runs. Law also had one wicket down for one run, but 37 was realised before the second man succumbed. This average was fairly Well maintained-throughout, the innings closing for 152.
