"Good three-quarter scraped 170s, Silver, 25 5-llid. Glycerine advanced to 100s a ton, which is a record and is due to the increased quantities of explosives used in the construction of the Panama Canal and other undertakings. Wool.—The Waihua clip brought top price lO'/od, average 10'/ B d. There was strong competition for good and free wools" but short and faulty were neglected. -•*• ■:. ■ ; DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT. Messrs. E. Griffiths and Co., Xew Plymouth, are in receipt of the following market report from their London jnincipals, Messrs. Mills and Sparrow, «Mm October 14, 1010: The labor troubles still exist in sense parts of the country, but not 'to sueh a large extent as last week, and there is every prospect now that a settlement will be effected, and that work will be generally resumed at an early date. The weather* has turned much colder during the last few days, and if this continues it will no doubt have a beneficial effect on the market for secondary grades, which are very slow of sale. BUTTER.
Danish—Supplies during the last few weeks have been on a fairly heavy scale, and it is reported that conditjons are favorable for a good make during the next two or three months, but as the bulk of the butter is being retailed at a comparatively low price, we have no doubt that the consumption will be sufl'i-. cient to absorb supplies. Siberian.—Trade on this description i* now of a dragging character. The fewbest butters that are arriving sell fairly well, but the bulk of the butter consists of secondary and there is also a failquantity of'this grade in cold store for which there is but little demand at the present time. French.—A serious strike of railway employees has occurred, this waek, but up to the time of writing it iAs not affected the supply of butter to this country. The Government are taking all necessary steps to deal with the matter, and it is not expected that there will be any cessation of supplies, although of course great infonveriience is caused to shippers. Australian.—The s.s. Morea arrived Oft Saturday last, but some of her butters were on the market on Mondajr. The quality of the best brands of Viqtorian butter is pleasing, although the, butter lias rather too much color for many buyers. This is a pity, as it rather-confines the sale to a few districts, where this dark butter is taken, the general demand | being for a medium colored butter: Notwithstanding this, all best brands have cleared at full rates, but we are sorry i that we cannot report the same for secondary grades, the sale of which is practically at a standstill, but with the colder which we are now having, we anticipate that before long these will be all wanted.
New Zealand.—There is a small shipment per s.s. lonic due on the 20th iitst., and we understand that part of this shipment consists of butter that has been stored in the Colony, and that only a small portion is fresh-made butter. CHEESE. Trade has remained steady and buyers continue to make their purchases of Canadian weekly, and do not seem inclined to lay in stocks. From the New Zealand point of view this is an excellent sign, and we have no doubt that buyers will be ready to take on New Zealand cheese when they come along.
