THE HDUTK.TLITKAL SIiUW. (From Our Own Correspondent.) "Very successful," was the general comiiiont made In' the large number ot people who attended Thursday's show. All seemed pleasantly surprised tiiat such a wealth of bloom could be found at this particular time of the year. Xew Plymouth exhibitors wore much in evidence, and scored a large number 01 prizes. A much-admired exhibit was that of Mr. 11. King, who was good enough to send along a large collection of beautiful rose blooms for exhibition only, and during both afternoon and evening high encomiums were passed on their beauty. Taken altogether, the Society may congratulate themselves on the splendid support accorded them, and it will give them some heart for the future. Already they are talking of an autumn show, and, judging by general opinion, would be again well supported. The following is the prize list: — Begonia, 3 varieties, collection of 3 and G geraniums, collection of einneraria, collection petunias, collection foliage plants, collection N.Z. ferns, collection foreign ferns, collection palms and ferns, Mr. W. Nichols, of New Plymouth, first in each class. The same exhibitor secured a second in his collections oi cactus and flowering plants. Miss Gladys Uhlander secured firsts in single fuchsia, single geranium and blue lobelia. Firsts were awarded to Mr. R. T. Hicks for double geranium, foliage begonia and small foreign fern. Mrs. Vickery wns awarded first in calceolaria, Mrs. T. Elliot in hanging basket with plant, Mr. T. French in palm, Mr. H. McAllum in aspidistrum, and Miss E. NichoJls (Tikovangi) in N.Z. fern. Mrs. Nicholls and Mr. T. French were awarded seconds in N.Z. fern and aspidistra. This was the full prize list in- pot plants. Several were disqualified for having two plants in one pot. In cut blooms, Miss K. Faull (Tikorangi) was second in single and collection of geraniums, Mrs, Salt (New Plymouth)' second in tea roses, first in H.P. roses, 3 roses, 6 roses, 12 roses and bowl of roses; Mrs. R. Rolfe first in tea roses, verbena and double pelargonium; Mrs. Grimstone first in bowl of arranged flowers, second in H.P. roses, 3 roses; Mr. F. Goodacre second in 6 roses, abutilons, first and second in the four classes of sweet peas, first in rhododendron virginalis, and first in 12 pansies; Mrs. H. McKenzie first in collection of dianthus and second in 12 pansies; Mrs. Ellerm, first in 6 carnations, and first in columbines; Mrs. Arthur Andrews second in 6 carnations and first in three carnations; Miss Jones first in nasturtiums, bridal sheaf, and second in shower hand bouquet; Master P. Foster received a highly commended for one amaryllis, & amaryllis, gladioli, collection double petunias and collection of blooms; Mrs. E. Allen second in pelargoniums; Mr. Buchanan first in pelargoniums, azalea, Canterbury bells, and first and second in rhododendrons. Mrs. White, first in one peony; Mrs. Bleakley, first in 3 peonies; Mrs. Telfar, second in peony; Mrs. J. L. Purdie, first in phlox drummoridi, 3 and 6 varieties; Mrs. Birdling, second in abutilons; Mrs. McGahey, first in poppies; Mrs. D. Alexander, first in single and double fuchsias;; Mrs. G. Andrews, second in single petunias, 'first and second in larkspur; Mrs. S. Ashton, first in table basket, second in bridal sheaf, first in hand bouquet, second in lady's spray, and first in floral cross; Mrs. W. Nosworthy, first in buttonhole nosegays, lady's sprays, highly commended for bowl of arranged ■ flowers, and would have been awarded first but for the fact that more than one variety was used; Mrs. Bicheno, highly commended for lady's "sprays, and first and second in floral wreath; Mrs. Wallach, first and second in dinner table decorations, for which Mrs. Corbett was highly commended. In the vegetable class Mrs. Vickery received first for peas, longpod beans, cauliflower, carrots and cabbage lettuce; Mr. W. Nichols, second in peas; Mr. A. Kerr second in beans, first in cabbages and radishes; Mr. B. S. Longstaff first in round beet, long beet, second in carrots, first in Cos lettuces and seed onions, second' in potato onions and parsley, first in parsnips; Mr. J. F. Loveridge, second in cabbages, potatoes (2 classes), gooseberries, and first for limes; Mr. G. V. Tate, first for potato onions, six firsts in potatoes, first in oranges, first and second in lemons; Mrs. Blealdey, first for parsley; Mrs. M. Jones, first for gooseberries; Mrs. G. Andrews, first in red currants, first and second in eggs; Mrs. T. Elliot, second in red currants; Mrs. Birdling, second in oranges. In the preserves class, Mrs. Stockman received first for fruit in syrup and jelly; Mrs. G. Andrews, second for fruit in syrup; Mrs. McAllum, first for marmalade, first for tomato sauce, and Mrs. Vickery first for jam; Mrs. Birdling, second for jam and chutney; Miss Faull, first for jam, 3 varieties, chutney and wine, also a highly .commended for wine; Miss Topliss, second for jelly, first for pickle; Mrs. Allen, second for tomato sauce, first for jam sandwich, first for Turkish delight and cocoanut ice; Mrs. J. L. Purdie, highly commended for tomato sauce, and second for vinegar. In the home cooking section, Mrs. Frost was second in bread and first in fruit cake; Mrs. Purdie, highly commended for bread, first for whole meal bread, currant loaf and oat cakes; Mrs. French, second for sconesj Mrs. Telfar, first for scones (two classes) and jam tarts; Miss Topless, highly commended for scones, and first for jam sandwich; Miss Stubbs, second for scones, first for collection small cakes; Miss B. Stoddart, highly commended for scones; Mrs. G. Goddard, second for Swiss roll; Mrs. Roadley, first for jam sandwiches; Mrs. R. Robe, second for jam sandwich; Mrs. I. George, first for sausage .rolls, secoond for fruit cakej Mrs. McAllum, first for shortbread. In the fancy-work class Miss Faull was awarded first for quilt; Miss L. Bayly, first for crochet work; Mrs. W. Andrews, second for crochet work, first for Mount mellich work; Mrs..G. Uhlander, first for cross-stitch; Miss Soffe, first and second for cushions; Mrs. Scully, first for drawn .thread, second for tea cosy; Miss Queen Rattenbury. first and second for embroidery; Miss B. Rattenbury, second for Mount-mellich work; Miss Jones,first for tea, <*>sy. A meeting is to be held on Monday evening for the purpose of organising a function in connection witk the Fire Brigade. Probably it will take the form of a floral fete.
