LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the Legislative Council this afternoon, the Attorney-General moved the second reading of the Legislature Bill, which was agreed to after a slight debate. The Bill was put through its final stages. The Hospitals and Charitable InstitU; tions Bill was put through all stages, with a new provision constituting the ••'s county and borough of Wairoa a hospital district. The Shops and Offices Bill was committed. The Council adjourned at 5 p.m. In the Council in the evening the Shops and Offices Bill was further considered in committee. Attempts were made by Hons. Jenkinson and Barr to reduce the liours fixed by the Bill for weekly service of assistants over 16 in hotels and restaurants (58 and 62 hours respectively), but without avail, and the Bill was reported without amendment. The Rating Amendment Bill was passed. The Public Holidays and Muncipial Corporations Bills were read a second time. The Council adjourned until 10 a.m. tomorrow to pass the Imprest Supply Bill. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House after disposing of the Gaming Bill (reported elsewhere), went into »• ■ committee on the Public Works Amendment Bill. The clause providing that a local auth- '. ity may by special order raise a special ; loan was inserted on the motion of Mr. \ Arnold. Mr. Phillips moved to amend the schedule by providing that land may be , ; taken for the purpose of show grounds i or agricultural halls, as well as for other purposes, as for public works under the »' Public Works Act, 1008. The amendment was carried by 47 to 19. A proviso by Mr. Te Rangihiroa that no native lands may be taken without the consent of the Native Minister was I; agreed to. | A sub-clause providing for the metal- | ling of streets to the satisfaction of local bodies wherever estates had been sub- ,j divided was carried by 44 to 20, and the Bill was reported with amendments. 1 The Hine Committee report was pre- J sented at midnight. . «
