It is claimed that he produced more prize-winners in the show ring during recent years than any sire in the Dominion. In 190S-09 his progeny won forty-six first prizes, and in the late Marllwrough Show they gained nearly all the major awards, including the championship. TARANAKI CHRISTMAS MEETING. ENTRIES CLOSE TO-NIGHT. A final reminder is given horse-owners and trainers that entries for the Taranaki Jockey Club's Christmas meeting, to be held on December 2G and 27, 1010, will be received by the secretary, Mr. L. ' P. Webster, up till 0 o'clock to-night. Nomination fees are as follows: —Flying Handicap, 1 sow; First Welter Handicap, 1 sov.; First Handicap Hurdles, 1 sov.; Christmas Handicap, 1 sov.; Ladies' Purse, 1 sov.; Fitzroy Handicap, 10s; Stewards' Handicap, 1 sov.; Electric Handicap. 1 sov.; New Plymouth Handicap, 1 sov.; Second Handicap Hurdles, 1 sov.; Summer Handicap, 1 sov.; Second Welter Handicap, 1 sov.; Farewell Handicap, 1 sov. Good stakes are offered for the above races, and they should draw good nominations. The programme for the meeting includes four open and twelve hack races, the latter including two hurdle and two welter events. The Stratford annual meeting follows a week after the Taranaki meeting, and thus offers fur-j ther inducement to outside horses, as ■well as serving to keep Taranaki horses i in their own province at holiday time. The local course is in capital order for the gathering, and with Mr. Geo. Morse filling the role of handicapper, and Mr. A. W. Budge to send off the fields, no-' thing should be wanting to make this year's gathering a big success. j TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") Taranaki nominations close to-night. Acceptances for the Waitara annual meeting are due to-morrow. Golden Loop and Red Lupin have accepted for the Takapuna J.C. meeting, which opens to-morrow. The Sir Prize—St. Toney double is reported to be in great demand just now. The death is reported from Queensland of the New Zealand Cup-winner, Downfall, who succumbed to injuries received in an argument with a barbed-wire fence. the full-brother to Bonifoism, has gone wrong, and will hardly be likely to run at Ellerslie next month. A Wanganui writer states that Astraea is still very lame as the result of picking up a nail at Carterton, and Walter R'aynor will have to keep her on] the easy list for a month or two. Sir Prize has dropped out of the St. Andrew's Handicap at Feilding, and h looks as if his party are right after that Auckland Cup. It is generally admitted that this year's field is likely to be a' moderate one in every respect, and Sir, Prize will only have to run up to his 1 Wanganui and New Zealand Cup form to bring, the stake to Tarana.ki. At a meeting of the Egmont Racing Club on Saturday several alterations were made in the club's programme. The Hawera Stakes will be run overj one mile instead of six furlongs, and the Eltham Hurdle Race has been reduced from a mile and three-quarters to a mile and a half. Taskmaster broke down so badly in the New Zealand Cup that he is hardly likely to race again. Sandstream is said to be galloping well at present, and is a sure starter at Feilding next week. Lady Lucy has been left in Melbourne, and will be raced in 'Straliaj this summer. At present practically nothing but' Kopu is be'ing talked about for the; Auckland Cup, but talking never won a race, anyhow. - ( Although Trafalgar did not win a race at Flemington this month, his earnings' for second and third place money ran' into £I4OO. I Crucinella is now quite bright again,) having l got over a recent gastric trouble,! and she will soon be getting into shape! for future engagements.
