Received 25, 12.20 a.m. London, November 24. The stoppage of general leave on the battleship Mars, at Devenport, led to a concerted protest to the Commander. There was some booing among the men, whom the petty officers oil duty punished; but they could not prevent it.
BRITAIN'S POLICE FORCE. Received 25, 12.20 a.m. London, November 24. Mr. Winston Churchill, in the House of Commons, announced that he was appointing thirty sub-inspectors from among the miners and quarrymen, and also adding to the higher staff twelve junior inspectors.
THE TIDE OF EMIGRATION. Received 25, 1.1.5 a.m. London, November 24. The P. and 0., Aberdeen, and White Star lines are devoting two-thirds of their accommodation to assisted passengers, and the Orient 50 per cent. Other lines have their utmost capacity engaged, hence the necessity for despatching the surplus emigrants by German steamers.
