LAND AND INCOME TAX. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, November 24. The Land Tax Bill before the Assembly provides for a flat rate of threefarthi'ngs in the pound on unimproved values, with exemptions of £SOO on country lands and £3OO on urban lands. Hobart, November 24. In the Assembly the Premier introduced the land and income tax resolutions and the Land Tax Bill. The scale starts from a penny in the pound on unimproved land values up to £2500, and ranges to 2y 2 d on values over £BO,000. The income tax is fixed at a shilling in the pound on all incomes where companies are concerned, and on incomes derived from property or personal incomes it ranges from 4d to Is 4d, according to a scale.

THE VOTE OF CENSURE. Sydney, November 24. The vote of censure debate is expected to finish to-night. A Government victory is considered certain. THE FEDERAL PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, November 24. In the Senate the Defence Bill has passed the report stage. The House of Representatives, after passing the first item, made good progress with the Estimates.

DEBATE ON THE ESTIMATES. Received 24, 9.30 p.m. In the House of Representatives during discussion on the Estimates, Mr. Cook severely attacked the cable subsidy . He said that only three papers participated in the service'. He had thought they were going to spend the taxpayers' money in a better manner. Mr. Batchelor denied the statement. He said that since the subsidy was granted other papers had joined, and now there were seven.

CHARGES OF '• TAMMANY." Received 29, 9.30 p.m. Melbourne, November 24. In the Federal Assembly. Mr. Williams fell foul of the Speaker by saying the Government had prostituted itself by a system of Tarn-many in the interests of the Press, and had to withdraw the words.
