Fine weather favored the first day of the South Canterbury J.C. Novembei meeting. The totalisator handled £2639, or £SOO less than last year. Bookmakers' fees were £246. A bad accident marred the Otaic Hurdles, four of the five in the field falling in a heap at the first hurdle. All the riders were more or less cut and bruised. V. Cotton haa his collarbone broken.
