A CUTE CONTRACTOR.
FORESTALLING THE STRIKERS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Received 23, 10.30 p.m. Adelaide, November 23. The McCarty Company, tramways extension contractor,s adopted a "novel way of preventing a strike. It was reported in the newspapers that the employees of different contractors intended to strike. McCarty called the men together and told them not to be led by otliers. He then conducted a secret ballot, which resulted in 172 votes against and three for a strike. McCarty save the rest of the day a holiday, and 'invited the men to have a drink.
