SOUTH AFRICAN UNION
A TRIUMPHAL PROGRESS. By Cable—Presa Associa-tion—Copyright. Capetown, November 22. The Duke of Connaught and his party had a rousing welcome at Buliuvayo, both by whites and natives. The Duke held an investiture at Johannesburg on the 22nd. Messrs Fisher and Fowlds spent the day on the East Rand, and were welcomed by Laborites. An address, presented by the Labor Party to Mr. Fisher, stated that his presence had given them renewed hope and energy. They would endeavor to emulate the example of their oversea brothers.
Mr. Fisher, in replying, said they need not be alarmed at their present small success politically. It appeared to them a sacrifice to carry the movement forward. He had ever advocated that workers should share the profit of industries. He advocated old-age pensions, and the taking over of monopolies by the State—running them in the interest of the people. 1
ROYALTY AT RHODES' GRAVE. Received 24, 12.5 a.m. Pretoria, November 23. Messrs. Fisher and Fowlds arrived yesterday morning, and were welcomed bj the administration. The Mayor and local Australasians entertained them at luncheon, which was a most cordial function, attended by the Administrator, Lord Methuen, judges and prominent persons.
Bulawavo, November 23,
The Duke of Connaught and party motored to the late Cecil Rhodes' grave in the Matoppos.
