INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Rev. Butler had a narrow escape last week while motor cycling in the district. His machine ran into some new metal, which caused the wheel to skid and swerve into a telegraph post. The front wheel was badly buckled, but Mr. Butler escaped with only slight injuries. Mr. A. J. Everett, of this town, who has been working in Stratford at the Bank of Australasia, has obtained a transfer to the Whangarei branch of that institution, and left by the mail train on Monday. His people reside at Whangarei. In the report of the cricket match, Inglewood v. United Service, on Saturday, the second Inglewood innings was published instead of the first. The first innings realised 54 runs—not 158, which was the second innings total. The local Bowling Club will play a match with New Plymouth on Thursday. The recent rains, though light, have improved the greens, which are in excellent order. The baths are now in full swing, and bathers may be seen going to and returning from this popular institution at all hours of the day. The temperature is now well over 60 deg. There is some probability of the 'Gymnasium Concert Company, which was so successful in its efforts here on Thursday, putting on a performance at Egmont Village, and possibly other out districts. The proceeds of the concert first held will be devoted to the purchase of new material—parallel bars and horizontal bars, at any rate. Saturday was the hottest day on record here this season, 80 deg. in the shade being recorded.
