TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Taranaki Education Board, commencing yesterday at 4.30 p.m., was attended by all the members, viz.—Messrs J. Wade (chairman), A. Morton, W. L. kennecj, A. H. Halcombe, AY. Rogers, H. Trimble, W. C. Cargill, J. Young, and G. A. Adlam.
RESIGNATIONS. The following resignations were accepted:— Mrs. Geddes, assistant Stratford High School, to take effect from November 30; Miss Amy -Jones, instructress in dressmaking. Technical Schools, to take effect from" December 31. The usual steps will be taken to fill these vacancies. APPOINTMENTS. I Appointments were made as follows: 'Lincoln, teacher, Miss Weston; Tarata, j teacher, Mr. N. Day (temporary); Ivina, 'teacher, Miss Rapley. , Resolved that Mr. A. S. Day's appointiment to Ruapuha School date from I January, 1911, instead of December 1, ; 1910, as previously notified. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence was granted to the !following owing to illness: —Miss Tliom- ■ son, for one month; Mr. Meyenberg, Omata, for two days; Mr. Livingstone, i Kaimata, for one week; Miss Bartlett, Okato, for one week; Miss Riordan, FitzI roy, for three days. ' CHAIRMAN'S REPORT, i Mr. Wade reported as follows: —KaiI mata: During the week Mr. Livingstone, J headmaster at Kaimata, was absent l owing to illness and Miss Tavendale (asI sistant) was appointed to take charge, ' and Miss K. Williams as temporary assistant. Miss Fraser, appointed by the ! Board to the Tarata School, had declined the appointment. Miss Steele, recomI mended for appointment by the Lincoln 'Committee, and Miss Lindsay, by the I Ivina Commitee, wired that they were ! unable to accept the appointments. In ! accordance with the resolutions carried ion December 15, 1909, and May 25, 1910, lit will be necessary to advertise several I positions, and the chairman proposed to forward a circular letter to all uncertiIficated teachers in this district with a jview of ascertaining if they intend to i sit for their certificates at the forthcoming examinations.—Adopted.
OKOKE SCHOOL.
At a meeting of the committee on October 7, Mr. P. Davke was elected a member in place of Mr. Hutchins. who had left the district. Mr. D. McDonald resigned the chairmanship at the same meeting and Mr. Darke was elected to the position. —Action confirmed. BAYLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP. Mr. P. Skoglund, lion, secretary to the Taranaki Rugby Football Union, wrote stating that the first athletic test in connection with the scholarship will be held at Stratford on December IS, and extending to members and officers of the Board a cordial invitation to be present. —The Union to be thanked for the invitation. TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT. Mr. R. McK. Morison, Stratford, wrote that, 'having held the position of instructor in agriculture under the Board for a number of years, he now wished to apply for a similar position under the Auckland Board, and respectfully asked for a testimonial. —The matter was left m the hands of the chairman, with power to act.
Mr. F. J. Heatlev, the newly-appoint-ed technical organiser, attended and submitted his report at the evening sitting, dealing with his proposed scheme of working. The report was still under consideration, clause by clause, when the Board rose.
