Mr. Henry Burling, the centenarian of Waikanae, lias been suffering from bronchitis, but is now well on the way to complete recovery.
Mr. John Dutliie, of Wellington, arrived in New Plymouth last evening. He will probably go on to Hawera bv the main south road, which he has not traversed for over tliirtv-five years. He used to come to New Plymouth once a quarter by the coastal route in the old days.
The death is announced of Mr. .Tame* Stevens, formerly of Petone, and latterly of Wellington, in his eiglityfoiirth year. Mr. Stevens, who was born in Cornwall, arrived in New Zealand in IS"4. He had undertaken large engineering works at Home and in Cuba, and on arriving in New Zealand took up land at Ivorokoro, where lie resided until a short time back, when lie went to Wel-
