AMUSEMENTS.

BALLOONING. The Suratura Tea Balloon Carnival Company, which includes the expert aeronauts and parachutists of the Beebe Balloon Company, have had to limit their New Plymouth season to one exhibition only, on account of other engagements, and in view of this fact it is the intention of the management to make the entertainment at the Sports Ground on Thursday afternoon unusually spectacular and attractive. "King Edward V 11.," the largest and most powerful balloon of its class in the world, will be used, and the celebrated aeronaut, Mr. Christopher Sebphe, will endeavor to establish a new world's parachuting record by descending from a height of more than 8550 feet. Previously the ascent of a huge balloon was extremely uncertain, and the preparations provided little in the way of interest. With the use of improved apparatus of their own manufacture, the Beebe Balloon Company claim that their ascents are assured, and they are able to offer their patrons an entertainment iu the way of scientific and educational preparations for the flight, even more interesting and exciting than the descent by parachutes.

THE CANTATA "DANIEL." The cantata "Daniel," by Roote and .Bradbury, promises a musical treat for music lovers. The Queen Street Church Choir, assisted by friends and orchestra, have been in hard practice for the last three months, the object being to raise funds for the new organ. We recommend all to hear "Daniel" on November 30, the evening preceding the Show.

A MUSICAL AFTEIINOOX. There is on view in Messrs. H. Collier and Co.'s music warehouse, a German piano which, it is understood, is the first of its kind ever imported into New Plymouth—Steimveg Naehf. Yesterday, several local leading musicians had the pleasure of hearing this beautiful instrument, and their verdict was that it is seldom, if ever, that they have heard such rich full singing quality of tone in any foreign make. The glaring fault usually found in all German pianos is the thinness of the treble as compared with the bass, but in the Steinweg this weakness has been entirely overcome, the scale being very even, and no breaks occurring in the transition from bass to treble. The touch is exceptionally fine, easy and elastic, and higher praise cannot be given to any instrument than that given by Rubenstein, the famous musician, who called it "'an exquisite piano." In Germany, where the highest class of German pianos is used. UTe Steinweg is acknowledged as the leading piano, and such artist- as Rubenstein, Clara Schumann, Yon Billow. Brahms, and, of the more modern ones, Teresa Carreno, Paderewski. Saint Saens. Pachmann, etc., have nil iped the*? pianos at their big recitals, and h.tve distinguished them with the highest of praise. Anyone desiring to hear or play this instrument should call pi If, Collier and Co.'s, in Devon street.
