THE RARAWA. The Rarawa's cargo from Onehunga yesterday morning amounted to 154 tons, including 9 tons of manure, 16 tons of cement, 13. tons of sugar, 18 tons of flour, and 460 cases of fruit, besides 4200 feet of timber. As Mr. F. Mclndoe, chief officer of the Rarawa, is on sick leave. Mr. McDonald is acting-chief and Mr. Thompson actingsecond.
THE KOTUKU. The Kotuku was expected to leave Westport yesterday with about 400 tons of Greymouth and Westport coal for New Plymouth. THE KOONYA. The Koonya is to leave Dunedin on Thursday for New Plymouth, via way ports, taking up the Taviuni's running. She is due here on Tuesday next.
TOTALLY LOST OR CONDEMNED.
Lloyd's Register of British and Foreign Shipping has published a summary of vessels of all nations totally lost or condemned during 1909. This return shows that in all 301 sailing vessels, of 194,293 tons, were lost to the mercantile marine. Of this number, 173 were wrecked, 36 were abandoned at sea, 25 were condemned to be broken up, 23 were lost by collision, 18 foundered, 17 were reported missing, six were burnt, and three Jost in other ways. During the same year, 296 steamers were lost, of which 137 were wrecked, 44 were in collision, 36 foundered, 12 reported missing, 19 burnt, five abandoned at sea, and three condemned.
