A VALUABLE DISCOVERY? By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Friday. The Mayor stated at a meeting of the City Council that all the buildings in Queen-street from the Waitemata Hotel to Swanson-street, including two valuable business blocks, encroached on the street —loft at the Waitemata Hotel, Bft at Smeeton's store, and about Ift just above Swan-street. The Works Committee is collecting information with a view, if the evidence is sufficient, of obtaining a legal judgment on the matter. THE UNDESIRABLE HUSBAND. Dunedin, Friday. An unusual case was heard in the Magistrate's Court this morning. Cetna Priscilla Graham, a married woman, pleaded guilty to having made a false statement whereby the Registrar of Births was caused to make a wrong registration. It appeared that defendant had separated from her husband, who continued periodically to visit her. This led her to lose a good situation, and to elude him she assumed another name, although the child was his. Defendant was committed for sentence.
A WESTLAND DEPUTATION. Greymouth, Friday. A strong deputation of Brunner and Greymouth,public men is to leave here on Monday to interview Ministers regarding the AVallsend mine, with a view of the State taking it over for development. PROTEST FROM EMPLOYERS. Dunedin, November 18. At the annual meeting of the Employers' Association, several members spoke concerning the attitude of some labor leaders, which they characterised as an endeavor to revolutionise the whole industrial system. The opinion was expressed that unless strong measures were taken to conserve the present systems no employers would be safe,
