HEAVY SENTENCES.

The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, which closed to-day, were probably a record here for the imposition of heavy sentences. Angus Black and George Moore, for theft from the person, each got four years', with hard labor, and were declared habitual criminals. Ernest Nicholls, on the same charge, was sentenced to four years' hard labor. Peter Dunn, for having indecently assaulted a goung girl, got' ! seven years'. John Layman MitcheH was found guilty of two charges of indecent assault and one of theft of a bicycle, and, was sentenced in all to fourteen years. Leonard Willis, on two charges of indecent assault, was sentenced to four years' "imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be cumulative. WELLINGTON SESSIONS. Wellington, Last Night. _ James Vincent Crimmins, Charles Cunningham and John Lewis, alias Lindsay, alias Newton, and Charles Reston were charged at the Supreme Court to-day with breaking and entering the dwelling of Mary Spenee, at Cambridge Terrace, on the night of October 4, and stealing jewellery, boots, etc., the property of Thomas Davidson, Alexander Hall and Peter Wilson. There was also a count charging them with assaulting and robbing Wilson. The prisoners were found guilty and remanded till Monday for sentence.

George Joseph Beasley was placed in the dock on a charge of assaulting Bobert Agnew McCallum on September 27, with intent to cau9e him actual bodily harm. Beasley was found guilty of common assault, and admitted to probation for six months. John Griffiths was charged with breaking and entering the dwelling of James Bennett, at Wellington, and stealing £1 12s. The jury returned a verdict of guilty.
