LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. In the Legislative Council this afternoon the Taieri Lund Drainage Bill was put through its final stages. The Education Reserves Bill was considered in committee. A new clause was inserted to provide that all funds vested in School Commissioners are to H vested in the Public Trustee for administration. Progress was reported, and the Council adjourned until Tuesday. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES In the House the Premier made an announcement of the list of Bills to be proceeded with, and some discussion took place concerning the Land Settlement Finance Bill, which was proposed to be dropped. In the House in the evening the Premier announced that he would withdraw the motion to strike the Land Settlement Finance Bill off the Order Paper. Amendments made in the Taieri Land Drainage Bill by the Council were agreed to. On the motion of Mr. Hanan, the committee set up to investigate the Hine charges was granted an extension of time, from the 19th till the 26th inst., in which to make their report. The following Bills were reported from committee without amendments: Monopoly Prevention Amendment and Urewera District Native Reserve Amendment.

The Dentists Amendment Bill was committed.

A new clause was added, providing that any person who, on coming into operation of the principal Act was entitled to be registered thereunder, but failed to apply for registration within the time specified by the Act, may apply to the Registrar not later ' than March 31, 1911, to have his name entered on the register. The Bill was reported with amendment. The Public Health Amendment Bill was taken in committee.

Mr. Lang moved to amend clause 2 (providing that by-laws made under the Public Health Act may prescribe a minimum frontage and area of land on which a dwellinghouse may be erected) by deleting "frontage and."

On a division the amendment was lost by 35 to 33. On the motion of Mr. Wilford the proviso to clause 2, providing that the area shall not be less than one-fifth of an acre in a district where a sewerage system does not exist, was struck out.

On the motion of the Minister, the following words were added to clause 2: "Nothing in this section shall apply to any allotment of land shown on the plan of a subdivision deposited at any Lands or Deeds Registration Office prior to the passing of the Act." At the instance of Mr. Massey, the Minister agreed to add' the words, "or local authority" after the word "office" in the clause as amended.
