RAINS IN CANTERBURY. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The late rain was general over the district. It came too late for some spring crops, but just in time for rape and roots. SWIMMING. Welington, Last Night. Mr. Henry, of the Life-Saving Society, is endeavoring to arrange' for a team of ten men from Australia to visit England under the auspices of the Empire Festival Committee, to compete with teams of ten men from Canada, South Africa and England. The competition is 'open only to the British Empire.
