FIRES
A COSTLY WELLINGTON OUTBREAK. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Thursday. A serious fire took place in the city shortly before noon to-day. Archer's drapery stores and the Union Laundry, Cuba-street, were gutted. The lire is supposed to have originated in an annexe at the rear of Archer's. The damage is estimated at over £3OOO. The premises were owned by Mr. V. Jensen, whose insurances were about £250 on each shop in the Norwich Union. The stock ' was insured for £20(10 in the Northern and Australian Alliance. The damage is estimated at £2.500. The main part of Archer's premises, a brick building owned by Mrs. Dawson, was uninjured. There were about 20 employees in the shop, mostly girls.
