j Some residents of Fitzroy are con- [ corned about the price tliev are paying New Plymouth for water. In connection with this, as well as other matters, the following letter was read at the meeting of tne Town Board on Monday from the town clerk of the Gonville Town Board: —''In reply to your letter of the 12th ult., I have pleasure in supplying you with the following information as asked for:—The capital value of all rateable property as at the 31 sis March is £251,31)0, only a general rate of one penny in the £ is levied, the interest and sinking funds on loans being paid out of this rate. The water supply is taken from the Wanganui Borough supply at a charge of Is per 1000 gallons. The Board retailing at Is per 1000 gallons if supplied by meter, or otherwise at 20s per annum for ordinary purposes and 30s for extraordinary purposes. The only loan raised by the Board was for £7000: for watei supply, £3000; drainage system, £3000; and streets improvements, £IOOO. A further loan of £IO,OOO has recently been authorised for extensions of the water and drainage systems, purchase of land for roads and recreation, erection of Town Hall, Fire Brigade station,. a:na swimming baths and additional street improvements. Two loans totalling £2060 were taken over from the County when the town district was constituted. Gas for house and street lighting is supplied by the Wanganui Borough solely on its own undertaking. An electric tramway system is proposed to be installed by a separate Tramway Board constituted by a special Act of Parliament and for a specially defined area, the power of which is to be bought from the Wanganui Borough at a charge of 9 l / 2 d per car mile, the Tramway Board supplying the cars and running equipment for the amount as above stated."
