BOROUGH COUNCIL

WORKS COMMITTEE. The following is the report of the Works Committee, to be presented at to-night's meeting of the Borough Council:—

(1) That consideration of the lette from the New Plymouth Fire Board, re ferring to the means of egress from th gallery of the Whiteley Church, be de ferred pending a reply being receive! from the Whiteley Church trustees; (2 that consideration, of the letter from ih rg payment for Fire Brigade services outside the borough, be de ferred; (3) that consideration of tin letter from the Taranaki County Goun oil re the merger of the Henuiroaddis trict in the county, be deferred; (4' that the A.M.P, Society be informed thai the Council adheres to its previous de cision with reference to interest cou pons; (5) that the St. Aubyn Towi Board be informed that the cost o forming up Cutfield road, from Devoi street to Gaine street, is «timated bj the borough engineer at £7, and on tin Board agreeing to pay half the cosl the work will be proceeded with; (6' that the Minister for Internal Affairs bi informed that, provided the matter ii gazetted forthwith, the Council is agree able that the proposed inclusion of tin portion of the Mangorei road district ii the borough should not take place unti March 31 next; (7) that the Inspecto: of Noxious weeds be informed that hi: letter referring to gorse and blackbern on the portion of the old waterwork reserve, east of the Waiwakaiho river will receive the favorable consideratioi of the Council; (8) that the borougl engineer be authorised to form Bulle: street, east of Hobsou street, for a dis tance of 1% chains, at a cost not ex ceeding £7; (9) that the letter from tin secretary, 1.0. G.T., re removal of eartl from their section, corner of Courtemu street and Carrington road, be referrec to the borough engineer to deal with. (10) that the Inglewood Borough Coun cil be informed that the Council, beinj perfectly satisfied with its building by laws, cannot see its way to join wit! the Inglewood Council in obtaining tlic services of an architect to frame new building by-laws; (11) that Mr. Geo Back be informed that when he ca?i address the Council in courteous language his complaint will receive consideration; (12) that the letter from Messrs. Bullock and Johnson, asking foi the water cart to be taken past theii East End store, be referred to the borough engineer to deal with; (13) that in view of the special circumstances of the case, Mr. T. C. List be given permission to put in a septic tank at the Daily News Office, in lieu of connecting with the sewers; (14) that the question of connecting Mrs. Elizabeth Loveridge's property with the sewer be referred to His Worship the Mayor to report upon; (15) that Mr. F. D. Holdsworth be informed that, provided he pays the cost of the adjournments, the borough engineer -will be authorised to adjourn the case for net connecting his property with the sewers; (16) that the letter from the sanitary contractor, with reference to the receptacles provided foi night-soil, be referred to the inspector, with instructions to insist that proper receptacles be provided; (17) that the I action of the executive committee in dealing with the following matters be confirmed, and the resolutions passed by the committee be adopted by the Council:-

That the borough engineer be author

ised to take over contracts Nos. 46 and 47, as recommended in his letter of October 19, 1910: (2) that the borough engineer be authorised to accept the conditions set down by Mr. Kerr re alterations at intersection of Fill ford street nml Robe street: (3) that the plans of alterations at Fulford street and Robe street, as submitted bv the borough engineer, be approved; (4) that the borough inspector be instructed to take proceedings against the owner of every chimney being on fire; (5) that the borough engineer be instructed to tar and sand the cobblestone gutters where required; (0) that the deputation which waited on the Council at its last meeting with reference to the removal of night-soil be informed that the Council proposes to make fresh arrangements of a more satisfactory nature after the end of March next, but that in the meantime the Council expect the by-law to be complied with; (7) that a copy of the borough engineer's report, re cost of extending the water mains to the new site for flip Old People's Homo, be forwarded to the Hospital Board. •
