OPENING OF THE BOWLING GREEN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The official opening of the Bowling Club took place on Thursday afternooTi in glorious weather. There was a record attendance, including visitors from Stratford, Fitzroy and New Plymouth. A match was played between the president's and vice-president's teams, which resulted as follows, the presidents team being mentioned first in each case: Johnston, A. Marshall, Abbott and Allen (30) v. Balhmtyne, Orbell, Hobbs, Ewing (25); A. Johnston, Taylor, Cottier, Lealand (1G) v. Roberts W. Marshall, Sehnaekenberg, Wilson (24); Mackay, Lee, Mynott, Hcaly (21) v. Rolston. Hurle, Mcjrton, A. K. Smart (25); O'Carroll, Spurdle, C. Hamerton, Crawshaw (20) v. J. Drake, Frewin, Porcival. Collins (14); Douch, Quigley, Biggs. Ilislop (20) v. J. Surrey, A. Morton, Goller, Sutherland (20); Adams and Pine (3) v. Bennett and Caldwell (7). Totals: President, 110; Vice-President, 121.

Mr. Oibell. of Orln-11 and MacKay,, surveyors, is erecting an office next Mr. Peach's boot shop. Mr. R. J. Fiewin has shifted into the centre shop of Curtis' Buildings. He is the first tenant installed in the 7ie\\ premises. The closing of the golf season was celebrated locally on Thursday, although, owing, to counter-attractions in the way of bowls and tennis, there was not a vcrv large attendance. In the final of the President's Medal, Dewhirst beat W. J. Matthews. Mr. N. (!. Sutherland returned from a holiday in Wellington this week. The Gymnasium pupils are very bus) at present practising for their concert. It is to be hoped the concert will be well patronised by the public, as the "gym." is a thing which all towns ot any size should have.
