NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS, i Last Saturday the Now Plymouth Lawn Tennis an-! Croquet' Club opened their season in glorious weather,' although the atmosphere was somewhat chilly, thus preventing the ladies appearing in their summer apparel, which one always expects to see on these auspicious occasions. Dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies' committee. .

There was a goodj attendance, and splendid business was, done.

Mrs. Fletcher, of Auckland, is the guest of Mrs. James Paul. New Plymouth. Mrs. Fletcher, on her return home to Wellington from Auckland, spent a few days with Mrs. R. Cruickshank, New Plymouth. : Miss Clarice Buckman, Xew Plymouth, left last week for Sydney, where she is to join Mr. J. C. Williamson's Company. Mrs. Fitzherbert returned last week from Wellington. Miss Alice Hempton, Xew Plymouth, leaves on the 15th inst. for a trip to Sydney. Miss G. White, of Hawera, is the guest of Mrs. Turnbiill, Xew Plymouth. Mr. and Mrs. Walker, who have been the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Home, left on Tuesday for their home in Shanghai. Mrs. Benbow's many friends will be glad to learn that her baby boy, whose life has been despaired of for some time, is now making progress towards recovery under the skilful treatment of the hospital medical and nursing staffs.
