Major George Gore Gillon, Xew Zealand Medical Corps, has been promoted to be Lieutenant-Colonel, as from October 13.
Mr. Hugh Winfield Roll, of Eastbourne, England, solicitor, has been appointed a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of Xew Zealand in England. :■ Mr. R. W. Hamerton (says the Star) * proposes resigning from the command of the Pa tea Rifles, a position which he nag honorably held for eight years.
The colonial auxiliary forces officers' decoration has been awarded to Lieuten-ant-Colonel J. F. Carolan, Xew Zealand Medical Corps, and to Lieutenant-Colonel A. Stoncham, Ist Battalion Otago Rifles, each with twenty years' service. In response to numerous requests from ratepayers, Mr. J. T. Mannix has consented to become a candidate for the vacancy in the representation of the west- ward on the Xew Plymouth Borough Council created through the resignation of Mr. H. J. Hobbs. Mr. Mannix was a candidate in the previous west ward election.
