The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association's 1910 Metropolitan Show was successfully launched on its career to-day. Everything points to the show l)ein<r an unqualified success. Th; 1 weather is fine, and.the "rounds are in very fair condition, though parched, and entries are considerably in e\,-e-s of those of the previous year. The work done today was very lahgely in preparation for the displays of to-movrow and Friday. | .Stock and cattle were not all on the j ground to-day. but there were several representative classes on view. Sheep entries this yeiir number 1052, as against I 048 last year. Much interest is being I manifested in the and some keen competition is expected. Cattle also show, an increase on the previous year. the figures being 215 and 2(14. There has been a decline in dairy produce, dressed pouultry, cured and preserved meats, and seeds, and entries for farmers' judging competitions have also declined. These are the only two sections which fall short of last year. In some of the others, particularly in horses, there are substantial increases, and the total for this year works out at 2154, as against lOfiT last year. .'lidghi;: to-day was confined to inipleni; nt- and machinery, Xew Zealand manufa .Lures and carriages. There was not a very large attendance of the public, but there never is a rush of patrons on the first day.
