The Senate passed the Oil Bounty Bill through all stages without material amendment. Received 10, 1.4 a.m. Melbourne, November 9. In the House of Representatives the Postal Rates Bill was read a third time. THE LAND TAX BILL. Received 9, 10.20 p.m. Melbourne, November 9. In the House of Representatives the Senate's amendments in the Land Tax Bill were considered. It was decided to exempt all clubs. Opposition members objected on the ground that it was not democratic CHILDREN AND THE STAGE. Melbourne, November 9. In the House of Representatives a Bill was introduced to prevent taking children from the Commonwealth for theatrical engagement, or any child of European extraction not in charge of an adult of European extraction, or any aboriginal, the penalty to be £2OO. A "child" was defined as one under sixteen vears.
DEFENCE. Received 9, 9.35 p.m. Melbourne, November 9. In the House of Representatives Mr. Fraser, for the Minister of Defence, stated that 200 airships could be provided for the cost of an Australian unit.
TINKERING WITH THE TARIFF. Received 10, 1.4 a.m. Melbourne, November 9. A deputation requested Mr. Tudor to increase the duties on bananas from one to two shillings per cental. He replied that the matter would be dealt with in the general revision of the tariff next year.
