EXPORTS FOR OCTOBER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ' Wellington, Tuesday. The value of the principal products passed through the Customs for export from New Zealand for the month ended October 31, 1910, was £720.383, as against £822,248 for the corresponding period last year. Details of exports for !the latter half of the month are as follow:—Butter £99,103, cheese £22,308, frozen beef £12,473, frozen mutton 1 (carcases) £14,974, legs and pieces £2544, frozen lamb £220, wheat | £15,995, oats £4236, potatoes £B6, hemp £15,743, rabbits £5259, tow £1329, kauri gum £12,826, grain and pulse (other than wheat and oats) £B2B, hops £1253, hides £7OS6, skins of all kinds £43.865, tallow £12,477, timoer £16,899, wool £35,412, gold £64,232. RAILWAYMEN'S DISSENSIONS. Hawera, Tuesday. At a meeting of the Amalgamated ' Society of Railway Servants last night i a resolution was "passed that the Hawera branch views with alarm the recognition of the Engine-drivers', Firemen's and Cleaners' Association, as fully 80 per cent, of the railwaymen are against it. r THE LICENSING BILL. 1 Auckland, Tuesday. At a largely attended no-license rally held to-night the following resolutions were carried:—-(1) "That the Government be requested to accede this session j to the just demand for equality voting at P the licensing polls by removing the g three-fifths handicap and substituting the democratic principle of majority vote"; (2) "That in addition to local option we urge the Government this session to give such legislation as will enable the electors to vote on Dominion f *ption as a distinct and separate issue." r FEDERATED BUILDERS. Wellington, Tuesday. The New Zealand Federated Builders' and Contractors' Association met to-day, Mr. S. Clarke presiding. A resolution was passed asking the Government to make a provision that the Public Works Department tenders be opened in the presence of tenderers; also that unsuccessful tenderers may have their deposits returned immediately, the local engineers to be given a margin of, say, 10 per cent, to accept or- otherwise, and to have the right to retain the two lowest tenders until the contract is signed, r _______ ° i
