Both the tug and the lifeboat were swept by enormous seas, and, being unable to pass a line, returned to Dover. Coastguardsmen descended the cliffs at the peril of their lives by means of a rope ladder, and eventually a rocket line, fired from the foot of the cliffs, fell across the vessel.

London, November 7. The steamer Wimbourne was wrecked at Sandsend, near WhitVy, and the boats washed away. The crew, numbering 27, were splendidly rescued by the life-saving apparatus. THE KURDISTAN WRECK. Received 9, I a.m. London, November 8. The Kurdistan wreck represents a loss on the insurance market of a quarter of a million.
