TURF TOPICS,
(By "Moturoa.")
Bridge holds the time record, 3min. 25sec, for the New Zealand Cup. Tasman, Vanguard and Lady Zetland share the honor of having carried 8.9 to victory in the big two-mile race. The light-weight division have had a great run of luck.
The Diabolo-Equitas was backed for pounds, shillings and pence on Saturday, and the next in demand was the combination, Diabolo—Boanerges. The principal events at the Canterbury Metropolitan meeting to-day wil. be the Derby Stakes and the Metropolitan Handicap, each run over a mile and a half.
The new Gaming Bill proposes to repeal the ridiculous clause of the Bill of 1908 which barred the publication of dividends in the press. As far as gaining legislation is concerned, Parliament just seems to spend its time making mistakes and rectifying them. The fact that Wanganui will hold its half-holiday on Thursday, November 10 (Show Day), instead of November 9, will probably affect the attendance at the Waverley-Waitotara meeting on Wednesday next. Wanganui sports always roll up in great numbers, and there is a great deal of dissatisfaction over the change of date.
