"DOROTHY."
ANOTHER UNQUALIFIED SUCCESS. "A pretty and sparkling piece, admirably done," was the unanimous verdict of the crowded audience that visited the Theatre Royal last evening to witness the concluding performance of "Dorothy," given by the local Amateur Operatic Society. The performance went with a vim and sparkle right through, and the performers,, especially those taking the principal parts, achieved even greater success than on the opening night. The chorus singing and the dancing were really excellent. That a local society can put on an opera with credit is now beyond question, and the Operatic Society,"umier the direction of Mr. Francis Cornwall, ;"av feel confident of a very hearty welcome when they next appear. Much valuable assistance was given at both performances by the excellent orchestral music, a heavy share falling to Miss Warren as pianist. The whole of the dancin'g was arranged by Mrs. Keith McAllum very creditably. Mr. Will Diamond's specially painted scenery was much admirad. Mr. Harry Brooks was responsible for the properties and mechanical effects, and Mr. Holah for excellent limelight effects. Although the piece was staged under heavy expense there was a warm support from local theatregoers, and the management expect to have a surplus for future operations. The committee deserve great credit for the result achieved, as does also the hard-working secretary, Mr. Hi C. Collier, on whom the lion's share of the work rested.
