RIFLE SHOOTING

TARANAKI GUARDS v. RAHOTU RIFLE CLUB.

A team of thirteen men, representing the Taranaki Guards, journeyed down the coast on Thursday and fired a match against the local team, whom they defeated by 39 points, after a very interesting match. The day, although otherwise a fine one, was not too gooa from a shooting point of view. A strong and variable wind prevailed, and considerably affected the scores. .At the 600 yds. range two possibles were scored, by Rifleman L. Harrison ana the veteran Rifleman A. Baker, who put up his fourth consecutive possible ai, this range. The lady friends of the Club provided luncheon and afternoon tea, and were most assiduous in attending to the visitors. In the evening both teams sat down to dinner at the Rahotu Hotel, where Host Hood had put on a bountiful repast. Before leaving for home, Col.-Sergt. Hartnell tendered thanks on behalf of the team for the hospitality they had received. About 9.30 p.m. a start was made for New Plymouth, which was reached about 1 a.m. It is expected that Rahotu will return the visit in the autumn. Scores were as follows: ■TARANAKI GUARDS.
