TARATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The sixth annual meeting of share-, holders in the Tarata Hall and Public. Library Company was held in the Tarata Hall on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance of shareholders. I Mr. J. Crowe, chairman, presided. The secretary read a report and statement of accounts for the year ending October 15, 1910. The hall and supper room had been used 41 times during the year, exclusive of meetings in connection with the hall, church services and Sundayschool. The total amount earned for this was £l4 os, as against £lO 10s Od the previous year. Donations amounting to 7s, and receipts from proceeds of social, £7 as, were received. These items, 1 with cash in hand at the beginning of the year (3s Id) make a total of £22 0s Id. Expediture comprised: Rates and general expenses £5 6s 3d, interest ana bank charges £2 14s Od, expenses in connection with social £2 3s, leaving a credit balance of £ll 16s 4d on the year's working. The balance is accounted for by reduction of overdraft, £lO 10s lid, and cash in hand, 19s sd. Allowing for the difference of the amount of cash in hand at the present time and at the beginning of the year, and deducting the net result of social £5 2s (which is "earmarked" for the specific purpose of improvements to the hall), the debt on the hall has been reduced from ordinary revenue alone by the sum of £6 lis 3d. The overdraft at the Bank of New Zealand on October 13 was £l7 17s 2d.
A subscription list lias been circulated! by the chairman for funds towards the cost of erecting a gentlemen's dressing room, with the result that the sum oi £2O has been promised to date. Eleven new shareholders are included in the list. The work will be proceeded with, this summer. I
Mr. A. Corkill adversely criticised the! balance-sheet. He considered the pro-j ceeds from the social should not have' been used to reduce the overdraft, but, as the report clearly showed what the reduction of debt would have been had no social been held, the meeting upheld the secretary's action in reducing the overdraft to the lowest possible amount, and thereby saving a modicum of interest, until such time as the money was required to, pay for the proposed building.
On the motion of Mr. J. Crowe, seconded by Mr. F. M. Standish, the report and balance-sheet were adopted as read.
Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the retiring officers. The election of a committee for the ensuing year, resulted in the following gentlemen being duly elected: Messrs. J. Crowe, G. E. Bishill, A. W. Guilford, E. A. Marshall, John Paterson, F. M. Standish, T. K, Vile, F. J. Virgin and J. Waite. Mr. J. S. Wilson was re-elected auditor. Mr. J. Crowe declined re-election to the posi-1 tion of chairman. After several other! members of the committee had declined! to accept the position, Mr. F. J. Virgin reluctantly accepted the dual position of | chairman and secretary. Mr. F. M. .Standish was re-elected caretaker and vice-chairman.
