LIFE IN THE TROPICS
THE KING EDWARD YIL RESEARCH FUND. PART OF THE MEMORIAL SCHEME. By Gable.—Press Association. —Copyright. Received 2, 9.30 p.m. London, November 2.
Lord Northcote, in a lette;-' to the Times, urges that in addition to the statue already decided on, London's memorial to the late King Edward should include some support of the VII. Tropical Research Fund." He states that Lord Crewe, Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald, Lord Northampton, Baron Rothschild, Lord Elgin, Lord Kitchener and Mr. Joseph Chamberlain will give their support. The latter writes that he regrets he will be unable to take an active part in the movement in reference to tropical diseases, which he firmly believes has done more than anything to make tropical life possible to Europeans. Lord Northcote instances 35,953 deaths in the city of Havana from yellow fever during the fifty years before the United States commenced remedial measures, whilst there was only a single case in 1907.
